A new survey found one-third of Canadians say they have read the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but many report confusion between its text and the U-S Declaration of Independence.
The results follow a web survey in September of more than 15-hundred Canadians.
A majority think the Charter protects their pursuit of happiness, but that’s actually language from the American document.
The Association for Canadian Studies, which commissioned the poll, says it suggests many people feel they know the Charter better than they actually do, and that more education is needed.
