We are in the midst of a wave of COVID-19 in this province.

Public health experts are raising concerns as viral activity as measured by the province’s wastewater signal is now more than double what it was at this time last year.

The latest data released Thursday afternoon shows Ontario’s wastewater signal now stands at 2.1, while on the same day last year it was 0.98.

Doctor Fahad Razak is the former scientific director of the Ontario COVID-19 science advisory table and a regular panelist on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer.

He says there was hope COVID had started to plateau by late September, early October. But in fact, he says, it’s gone the other direction and continues to rise quite steeply.

Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore revealed the other day the uptake of the new COVID vaccine is not what it should be.

“Sadly, 1.8 million Ontarians isn’t enough,” Dr. Moore explained, “60-percent of those over 60 haven’t come forward to get immunized and yet there’s roughly 800 Ontarians over 80 and 700 Ontarians over 70 in hospital today with COVID, so that’s a key population we need to maintain.”

Dr. Moore and other experts encourage us to get both the COVID shot and the flu vaccine at the same time either at a doctor’s office or pharmacy.

On December 13th, the four city of Toronto vaccination clinics are closing, but until then, COVID and flu shots are available at these locations as well.
