Former Liberal Justice Minister Irwin Cotler is under 24 hour police protection because of a threat to his life.

The news comes in a Globe and Mail report which quotes two unnamed sources in providing the information, but the report does not say who or what organization or country poses a threat to Irwin Cotler, who is the focus of the cover story in the latest issue of Zoomer Magazine.

The former Montreal MP is an international human rights lawyer and has criticized many foreign governments including Iran for its conduct in the 2020 shooting down of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, which left 55 Canadians and 30 permanent residents dead, as well as Tehran’s funding of Hamas.

Hamas, designated a terrorist group by the Canadian government, carried out the October 7th attacks against Israel that left about 1200 people dead and hundreds taken hostage.

Irwin Cotler also recently served as Canada’s special envoy on Holocaust remembrance and combatting antisemitism, warning of a massive rise in antisemitism.
