On this 34th anniversary of the femicide massacre at Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique, the father of a northern Ontario woman who was fatally shot in October by her former partner is urging the senate to pass a federal gun-control bill without delay.
In a letter to senators this week, Brian Sweeney says the legislation contains crucial measures that would improve the way police deal with domestic violence cases involving firearms, which he says are urgent.
His daughter Angie was shot when her former partner Bobbie Hallaert broke into her Sault Ste. Marie home two months ago.
Hallaert then went to a second home and killed three of his own children and injured another woman, who survived, before taking his own life.
Brian Sweeney plans to be in Montreal Wednesday to help families mark the murders of 14 women by a gunman on December 6th, 1989.
