Mariah Carey has been dethroned as Christmas queen.

”Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” was recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958, when she was only 13.

While the song has consistently been a top 10 holiday favourite, it has now set a record for the longest time to reach number one after its release – 65-years.

The previous record was 25-years, for ”All I Want For Christmas Is You,” released by Mariah Carey in 1994.

Lee’s song’s only the third holiday number one ever on the Hot 100.

There was ”The Chipmunk Song” by The Chipmunks with David Seville, from 1958, that spent 4-weeks atop the charts.

Carey’s song spent 12-weeks there.

The 78-year-old Lee is also now the oldest performer to top the Hot 100.

Billboard says she moves ahead of Louis Armstrong, who was 62 when ”Hello, Dolly!” made it to number one in 1964.
