It’s being called very disappointing by restaurant owners on The Danforth, as well as long time Danforth city councillor Paula Fletcher and many local residents.

At this point, the popular Taste of the Danforth summer street festival won’t take place next August after members of the organization in charge voted to cancel the event.

The Greektown on the Danforth BIA is choosing not to increase levies on its members by close to 20 percent in order to fund the festival in the event of a serious fundraising shortfall like what they experienced this past summer.

Taste of the Danforth has drawn more than a million people in peak years and had been touted as a saviour for local restaurants, especially after the pandemic.

But at the Greektown on the Danforth BIA meeting members heard that organizers struggled to raise enough money and obtain enough sponsorships to cover the costs of the 2023 festival.

Councillor Fletcher says she hopes the board will reconsider and that she will do whatever she needs to do to have the city support a decision to have a 2024 Taste of the Danforth.

Paula Fletcher will have more to say at noon Thursday on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer where she is a regular panelist on our Tune into the Town municipal panel.
