GEORGE COHON: 1937-2023

Canadian businessman George Cohon, who founded McDonald’s Canada has died.

His son Mark Cohon was a one time Commissioner of the Canadian Football League.

Born in Chicago in 1937, George Cohon opened the first McDonald’s in Canada, in London in 1968.

He also founded Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada in the 1980s, a non-profit organization that provides travel and temporary accommodations for families with seriously ill children.

Cohon also spearheaded efforts to have McDonald’s restaurants in Russia. He attended the grand opening of the first store in Moscow and cut the ribbon on January 31st, 1990.

George Cohon was 86.
