Folk legend Buffy Sainte-Marie is pushing back on a report that questions her Indigenous heritage, calling it an attack on her character, life and legacy.
She says she’s never lied about her identity and says a CBC report on the subject is full of mistakes and omissions.
The report included the singer-songwriter’s birth certificate, which says she was born in 1941 in Massachusetts and lists her parents as white.
Family members backed that up.
But Sainte-Marie says many birth certificates were created when Indigenous children were adopted or taken from their families.
The C-B-C says it stands by its report.
