Following recent allegations that India might have been involved in the June murder of a B.C. Sikh separatist leader, New Delhi is issuing a travel advisory to its citizens.
The warning for ”Indian nationals and Indian students in Canada” warns that ”threats have particularly targeted Indians diplomats and sections of the Indian community.”
”In view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, all Indian nations there and those contemplating travel are urged to exercise utmost caution,” states the advisory.
The foreign ministry says it’ll remain inn contact with Canadian authorities to ensure the safety of Indian communities here, advising ”students in particular … to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant.”
Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller says it’s important for everyone to stay calm given the nature of events the past several days, adding he believes everyone knows Canada’s a safe place.
