The outrage over the transfer of convicted killer and serial rapist Paul Bernardo to a medium security prison is growing.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is calling for the head of the federal prison service to resign or be fired.

The correctional service has said Commissioner Anne Kelly ordered a review of the decision, but Ford told the legislature that she should either step aside, step down or be fired.

“When we sentence someone to life sentences, that means a life sentence, in the jail, maximum security 23 hours a day, matter of fact, I’d go one step further, that one hour he’s out, he should be in general population,” said Ford in the legislature.

Bernardo is serving a life sentence for the kidnapping, torture and murders of 15-year-old Kristen French and 14-year-old Leslie Mahaffy in the early 1990s.
