Despite repeated calls for his ouster, the Prime Minister says he’s committed to keeping David Johnston as Canada’s special rapporteur on foreign interference.
A majority of MP’s have voted to remove the former governor general from the job but Justin Trudeau told reporters in Toronto Friday, that Johnson will hold public hearings on foreign interference across the country in the coming months.
“This is a serious issue, unfortunately the leader of the opposition is not choosing to take it seriously and is choosing instead to fling mud and make personal attacks, that is not responsible leadership.”
Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre – who is refusing to review classified materials about foreign interference – is repeating his call that Johnston has to go but wouldn’t name a potential replacement.
“No I can’t name a specific name because I’d to that in partnership with the other parties,” said Poilievre. “We all need to agree on someone who is non partisan, not connected to any party leader and who has a track record of objectivity, preferably as a judge.”
