Health Canada has announced new warning labels that’ll go right on cigarettes – a world first by the way – in hopes of turning off anyone from starting and more graphically encouraging others from quitting.
There’ll be multiple sets of six warnings that will change in rotation featuring messages like: ”Poison in every puff” … ”Cigarettes cause cancer” … “Cigarettes damage your organs” and ”Tobacco smoke harms children.”
Starting August 1, Health Canada’s also including new warnings on packaging, which can be updated with the latest research.
Tobacco companies will have to implement the first regulations by next summer for king-size smokes, and the following year for regular cigarettes and little cigars.
”Canada is now a global leader of the pack when it comes to health warning regimes for cigarettes,” says Doug Roth, CEO” of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
”Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable disease and death in Canada and these important new measures will protect youth and support current smokers in their efforts to quit.”
