We’re getting some good news about a decrease in violence on Toronto’s transit.

“We’ve seen in the last four months a consistent downward trend in the number of incidents on the TTC,” revealed TTC Spokesperson Stuart Green.

He says in January they were at almost five serious incidents a day and are now down to about three a day with an intent to continue pushing that number down.

Green also explains that a number of steps have been taken over the last several months to improve safety and security.

“We’ve hired more street outreach workers to deal with people in crisis, we’ve got the involvement of the Toronto Police now, we’ve got more security, we’ve got more of our own staff out there just as a visible presence. These are all things that we were doing in that time to make sure our customers and employees not only feel safe but actually are safe,” Green explained.

Stuart says key in all this is being prepared to both prevent and deal with violent incidents.
