Special rapporteur David Johnston is recommending against a public inquiry into allegations of foreign interference in the 2019 and 2021 elections.

Following the release of the report Tuesday, Johnston said there are serious problems with how intelligence is shared within government, and he will hold his own public hearings about the issue sometime this year.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he’s not surprised about Johnston’s conclusions, calling it a “white-wash” attempt, also calling the former Governor General a “ski buddy” of the Prime Minister.

Johnston is pushing back against concerns about his integrity, calling them “baseless” and “troubling.”

Justin Trudeau is again insisting he has the highest confidence in Johnston.
