Zoomers of a certain vintage are mourning the death of the bass player for “The Smiths.”

Andy Rourke played on the British band’s biggest hits in the 1980s as well as solo singles for “Morrissey” after the group broke up in 1987

The band posted a statement to twitter saying “with deep sadness” that Rourke had died after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, and added, “those who knew him will remember him as a kind and beautiful soul and as a supremely gifted musician by his fans.”
