The Ford government is going to come up with more funding to ensure the e-vehicle battery plant in Windsor gets built.
”I will confirm we’re putting more money on the table. This is all about saving jobs and giving people the quality of life they deserve in southwestern Ontario.”
Automaker Stellantis had started construction on the NextStar plant that’s due to open next year and employ 2,500.
But the company recent said it was looking at ”contingency plans,” claiming Ottawa has not kept its funding promises.
Meanwhile, the federal government’s been pressuring Ford to pitch in as well, saying the province has to pay its ”fair share.”
Ford’s not how much more the province will give, but to expect an announcement soon.
Federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says there were positive but ”very pointed” conversations this week with Ontario and Stellantis.
