A new look passport has been unveiled by the federal government.
Redesigned from cover to cover it has state of the art security features.
”The passport holder’s personal information will now be laser engraved instead of being printed with ink, which is going to make the data page more durable and resistant to tampering and counterfeiting,” according to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser.
There’s also ”a temperature-sensitive ink feature that will ensure that we’re dealing with authentic documents.”
Ottawa started issuing the current version of the passport in 2013.
It’s still valid for up to 10-years.
The new passport will start being issued later in the summer.
A new, online renewal system is to be launched this fall.
Anyone applying for a new passport, including children, will still have to go through the traditional in-person process with Service Canada.
