Allegations by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service that a Chinese diplomat in Toronto was involved in a plot to intimidate a Tory MP and his family, has prompted the government to summon China’s ambassador.
Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly says she’s asked her deputy minister to tell Chinese Ambassador Cong Peiwu that this country will not tolerate any form of foreign interference in its business.
This comes after MP Michael Chong said C-SIS identified a diplomat in Toronto as being part of the plot.
Joly confirms that’s the belief of the security agency and that the government is open to the idea of expelling him, but that Canada first needs to see what could happen next.
”There will be consequences.  I think it’s important that Canadians know what we’ve learned from the two Michaels experience is that, of course, China and the PRC will take action,” Joly adds.
