The Prime Minister says it’s time for Liberals to continue to grow the party across Canada. He made the comments at the opening of the Liberal convention in Ottawa.

The party says this weekend is a chance to promote a positive vision of the party, a contrast to the politics of anger by their opponents.

Justin Trudeau kicked off the three-day event  with  speeches to the party’s Indigenous and youth wings before he delivers a keynote address Thursday night.

The party has struggled in recent polls as the Liberal government is hounded by allegations it is mishandling foreign interference and the struggles of Canadians amid high inflation.

Trudeau continues to say there will be two years until another federal election, but the timing depends largely on how long the minority Liberals and NDP maintain their supply-and-confidence agreement.

Former first lady and secretary of state Hillary Clinton will speak at the convention tomorrow.
