More than 11,000 unionized television and movie writers are going on strike starting today in a move that could bring movie studios and TV networks to a halt.
The Writers Guild of America’s first walkout in 15 years follows weeks of negotiations over writer compensation between the guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers which represents Hollywood production companies.
The late night TV talk shows will be the first to feel the effects.
The guild wants compensation and residuals for writers whose projects appear only on streaming services comparable with those whose work is in theaters or on TV.
