Tim Bachman, a founding member of the Canadian rock group Bachman-Turner Overdrive, has passed away at age 71.

On Sunday, Randy Bachman confirmed the news via his manager.

Paxton Bachman, Tim Bachman’s son, announced on Facebook that his father died on Friday, saying that he received a call from the nursing home where his father was residing last week informing him of his father’s worsening condition.

It came to light that Tim Bachman’s cancer had spread throughout his brain.

The Winnipeg-based BTO released its debut album in May 1973, and the band’s second album, Bachman-Turner Overdrive II, which was released in December 1973 and featured the smash songs “Let it Ride” and “Takin’ Care of Business,” became a great success in the United States and Canada.

Tim Bachman, a guitarist and singer who left BTO in 1974, later re-joined them on tours over the years.

His death follows that of his brother Robbie Bachman, another co-founder of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, who passed away in January at the age of 69.
