One week from today, the official ceremony for King Charles will take place in London, England.

It will mark the first coronation of a Canadian head of state in seven decades.

His late mother Queen Elizabeth had her Coronation in 1953, although she ascended to the throne in 1952 upon the death of her father, King George.

Despite a very public dispute, his son Harry, 38, the Duke of Sussex, will be in attendance for his father’s coronation. However, his wife, Meghan Markle, 41, Duchess of Sussex, will remain at their home in the U.S.

Here on Ontario, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, and Premier Doug Ford, Speaker Ted Arnott and Indigenous leaders will hold a flag-raising ceremony, a 21-gun salute and a drum circle at 11:15 a.m. on May 6th.

After the ceremony, a Coronation Celebration: A Fun Royal Fair is scheduled to be held on the south lawn of Queen’s Park from 12 pm to 6 pm.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be among the Canadian dignitaries attending the ceremony in London.
