The Waterloo businessman behind the Blackberry smartphone is portrayed in a new movie as someone prone to foul-mouthed outbursts.

Jim Balsillie played a key role in making Blackberry a global success.

“Blackberry” the movie is a retelling of the company’s origins with actor Glenn Howerton playing Balsillie.

After seeing a screening of the movie, Balsillie quickly concluded he was being roasted by the filmmakers but adds there’s an element of truth in his portrayal as an aggressive, competitive and ambitious businessman.

“BlackBerry” opens in Canadian theatres on May 12.
