The jazz world is mourning the passing of a master pianist and composer.

Over a seven decade career, Ahmad Jamal, was a successful musician, educator, recording artist and small-group leader.  He was also lifelong friend of jazz icon Miles Davis and influenced a generation of musicians.

Jamal was a US National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master who won a Lifetime Achievement Grammy for his contributions to music history.

Ahmad Jamal died Sunday of prostate cancer at the age of 92.
