On December 2nd, the Ontario Liberal Party will formally introduce its new leader.
The party’s executive declared Monday that it has established the guidelines and deadlines for the contest to succeed Steven Del Duca.
Del Duca resigned when the Liberals failed to secure enough seats in the 2022 election to maintain their formal party status at the legislature for a second consecutive election.
Many potential contenders, including MP Nate Erskine-Smith, MP and former Ontario cabinet minister Yasir Naqvi, and current provincial caucus member and former MP Ted Hsu, have declared they are considering leadership runs.
The party has set a deadline of September 5th and requires candidates to pay an entry fee of $100,000 as well as a refundable $25,000 deposit.
The party says it will shortly announce the start date for official candidate registration.
On November 25th and 26th, party members will vote via ranked ballots, and the party plans to release round-by-round results the following weekend.
