Fire officials say at least 20 homes under construction have been destroyed and 15 more seriously damaged after a major fire in Vaughan.
The fire is mostly under control this hour with a few hot spots and Vaughan’s Deputy Fire Chief Grant Moffatt says the winds made things extra challenging.
“Crews on route reported heavy smoke in the area, it was upgraded immediately to a 2nd alarm, once the crews arrived on scene they determined there were three buildings on the west end of this site on fire,” said Moffatt. “Due to the winds and the temperature today, it did spread to the adjoining buildings.”
There is no cause yet and one firefighter was sent to hospital with minor injuries.
Residents in the area of Teston Road and Pine Valley Drive are being asked to avoid the area.
