Legendary Canadian-American documentary film maker Alanis Obomsawin is now traveling in some pretty distinguished company.
The 90-year old is this year’s winner of the New Hampshire-based Edward MacDowell Medal, a lifetime achievement honour given previously to the likes of Toni Morrison and David Lynch.
She is also the first female director to win the medal.
Obomsawin was born in New Hampshire, but raised in Quebec. She’s an activist, actor, musician and member of the Order of Canada.
She’ll be presented with the award in July.
