Just a couple of week after winning more Grammys, 89-year old Texas native Willie Nelson is getting a new kind of honor: a university endowment.
Back in the 1980s, Willie with help from Canada’s Neil Young, launched the Farm Aid benefit concerts and that’s what’s behind the “Willie Nelson Endowment for Uplifting Rural Communities,” at the University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs.
The endowment will fund research and student fellowships benefiting rural and farm communities.
So far Farm Aid has raised $70 million for family farm owners.
The school plans a gala in May to officially honour the singer-songwriter who the school calls a national treasure.
Willie picked up two more Grammy’s last month to go with the 20 he’s already won.
