The Ford government calls it an historic investment into long term care.
Minister Paul Calandra announced new funding in addition to $900-million invested over the past two years.
“And this year, I’m happy to announce that with the highest ever investment, we are almost doubling that amount to $1.25 billion dollars.”
The money will be used to hire and retain staff and ensure residents get on average four hours of direct care by 2025. The province met its interim target last fiscal.
“And I can confirm that we are seeing results, in the first year, we reached our target of three hours of daily direct care provided by nurses and personal support workers,” said Calandra.
But the government can’t say yet if the target for this year will be met as there are still two weeks left in this fiscal.
Friday’s announcement is the third of a four-year commitment to hire and retain more than 27,000 nurses and personal support workers.
