In an effort to reduce the current total of airline passenger complaints, the Trudeau government’s promising nearly $76-million more in funding over three-years.
Speaking at Pearson Airport, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said the money will allow the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) to hire another 200 employees to deal with the growing number of complaints.
”Travellers have rights, and these rights must be respected by airlines,” he added.
”Today’s announcement helps give the agency more resources to deal with complaints and ensure the rules are respected.”
Alghabra says the government’s also working on significant reforms to the Air Passenger Protection Regulations, that he claims will ensure their rights are even more protected by giving the CTA ”additional authorities.”
Generally, the transport minister says he would like to see more responsibility placed on airlines to compensate passengers before complaints are filed.
