The City of Toronto is removing TikTok from 350 city-issued devices where the app has been downloaded and it will block the app from being downloaded on all city-issued staff devices in the future.

Meantime, the day after the province banned TikTok from government issued phones and devices, Education Minister Stephen Lecce say it’s now considering a ban in public schools.

“I think we’re seeking counsel and I’ve raised the matter as recently as yesterday with senior officials in the ministry to understand what are the steps the government should take responsibly to reduce the risk of privacy and physical and mental health of children.”

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is banning TikTok from board devices and within networks.

A number of governments around the world have already banned TikTok amid concerns the Chinese government could access user data.
