GOVERNOR GENERAL PERFORMING ARTS AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards for lifetime artistic achievement were announced this morning.

The honours in performing arts this year goes to soprano Rosemarie Landry and singers K.D. Lang and Molly Johnson.

Also included are playwright Michel Marc Bouchard and choreographer James Kudelka.

The 63 year old Johnson, who was on the cover of Zoomer Magazine in 2021, says she was initially annoyed when told she was getting a lifetime achievement honour adding that after decades in the business it is tough to make a living as a musician.

But says she is still trying to encourage people in music today as much as she did when she had a pop-band in the 1980’s.

The Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts goes to Indigenous entrepreneur and fundraiser John Kim Bell.

The laureates will be celebrated at a gala at the National Arts Centre on May 27th.
