Torontonians appear split on whether John Tory should resign following a secret relationship with a staffer in his office.

A new Forum Research poll finds almost half  or 45 % don’t think he should quit while 43 % think he should step away from the city’s top job.

One-in-ten say they don’t know.

Forum president Lorne Bozinoff says support for the Mayor remains significant and that it’s possible residents are open to Tory continuing his term.

A sentiment shared by the city’s budget chief, Gary Crawford speaking on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer.

“There are a few of us encouraging him to continue to stay on but at the end of the day, this is a decision he needs to make what’s best for John Tory, and what’s best for his family and I will respect whatever way he ends up going,” said Crawford.

Meantime, the city says it’s not behind a recent phone call survey to residents asking if Tory deserves a second chance.

Many on social media claim they’ve received the automated messages with five questions about the 68 year old’s admission to and affair and subsequent resignation.

Take a listen.

Tory announced he was stepping down as mayor on Friday night after admitting to an affair with a former staff member during the pandemic. In a statement, the Mayor says he’ll remain in his current role until after Wednesday’s city budget deliberations.
