Canadian/American actor Brendan Fraser is riding the award season wave with his latest movie “The Whale” which tells the story of a morbidly obese recluse trying to reconnect with his teen age daughter.

The 54-year old says after his experience making the film, it’s time to stop bias against the obese in real life.

Fraser told the BBC we often lose sight of the fact that the obese are people, with thoughts and feelings, hearts and families and their torment is largely played out behind closed doors.

The film “The Whale” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September and has since won the 54-year old actor a Critics Choice Award and a nomination for a BAFTA.

Fraser was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Canadian parents.
