A suspect has been arrested and will be charged with aggravated assault following the death of a woman believed to be in her 70’s or 80’s.
It happened at Yonge and King, a bustling intersection in Toronto’s financial district. Acting Inspector Craig Young Police says the suspect was arrested an hour later nearby on Richmond.
“It’s alleged a male individual pushed an elderly female to the ground and fled the scene, emergency services responded and immediately rendered life saving measures but the woman was was pronounced deceased at the scene as the result of the injuries she sustained.”
Police say the suspect matches the description of someone who destroyed property earlier in the day at University and Church.
It’s the latest in a series of violent attacks in the city including a recent swarming and murder of a 59-year-old man, and a number of TTC attacks.
Less than an hour after this assault, police reported a man tried to push someone onto the subway tracks at Bloor station.
There were no injuries.
