He was a major player in one of the most loved TV shows of the 1970s.

Stuart Margolin, James Garner’s sidekick “Angel” on the hit series “The Rockford Files,” has died.

It was a role that won him back-to-back Emmy Awards as best supporting actor in 1979 and 1980.

Margolin also turned up in dozens of other shows and joined Garner in a program called “Bret Maverick” after the Rockford Files went off the air.

His family said the cause of death was complications of pancreatic cancer.

Stuart Margolin was 82.
