The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) says its education workers have ratified a four-year deal with the province.
About 76% of the 55,000 workers including early childhood educators, education assistants, caretakers and other support staff voted, and of those 73% approved the contract.
”It is my greatest hope that this deal begins to alleviate the need and shows workers that after years of being overlooked and under appreciated that our work is valuable,” says Laura Walton, president of CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions.
The deal gives workers $1-an-hour wage hike each year or an average annual increase of 3.59%.
