Unless there is a last minute entry, it appears Marit Stiles will be acclaimed as the next leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party.
Monday December 5th is the registration deadline to officially declare intention to seek leadership of the party.
We learned over the weekend NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa would not seek the leadership. He posted on social media his top priority continues to be a voice for First Nations people across Ontario.
Chris Glover and Wayne Gates have also been mentioned as potential candidates.
Gates, who represents Niagara Falls, said while he has been “overwhelmed” by the encouragement and words of support, he would not be making a leadership run.
Glover, who represents the downtown Toronto riding of Spadina-Fort York, said he’s “kicking the tires” to see if a bid is still possible.
Marit Stiles represents the Toronto riding of Davenport and has garnered endorsements from seven of her NDP caucus colleagues.
