The Trudeau government’s warning it will not provide disaster compensation, where a province deliberately allows housing to be built in areas where flooding could occur.
The environment minister’s comment comes in the wake of the Ford government’s announced plans to open up the protected Greenbelt to development.
Steven Guilbeault says he’s ”very worried” by that, adding some of the lands where housing or commercial development is being proposed are in floodplains.
Will Doug Ford allow that?
“No and I encourage the federal (environment) minister to do his research. It’s the responsibility of any builder, no matter where we build, to make sure that they protect any floodplains,” according to the premier.
Ford says adding maybe he’ll call the environment minister and ”inform him of what’s going on.”
