A Jewish seminary in Jerusalem has confirmed that one of its students; a 16-year-old Canadian-Israeli, died in explosions near two bus stops in the city at the height of morning rush hour.
Rabbi Refaen (Raphael) Rockmill works at the seminary that Aryeh Shechopek attended.
“He was a very special, very, very special boy. Always smiling,” adding Rockmill.
”Everyone loved him and he loved everyone else. He always tried to do his very best.”
The blasts also injured at least 18 in what Israeli police say were attacks by Palestinians.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter.
”Incredibly saddened to learn about the death of a young Canadian in the terrorist attack in Jerusalem. I’m sending his family and friends my deepest condolences. I’m also thinking of those who were injured. Canada condemns this violence in the strongest possible terms.”
