The war in Ukraine has sent food prices soaring, especially in French-speaking parts of Africa, while leaders are concerned about a humanitarian crisis in Haiti.

Canada and Quebec have sent separate delegations and both considered not attending the event over concerns about the Tunisian government making anti-democratic moves.

Justin Trudeau says he wants to build stronger ties between Canada and African countries.
