There are no signs we Canadians will be going to the polls in a federal election anytime soon, but there seems to be momentum building in favour of the new Conservative leader.

New polling from Nanos Research has found Pierre Poilievre is now neck and neck with Justin Trudeau as the preferred prime minister.

“Giddy up. It’s a horse race,” Nanos told CTV News’ Trend Line podcast, “We ask Canadians every week who they would prefer as prime minister. And check out the numbers. You can see basically a tie between Pierre Poilievre and Justin Trudeau both at 30 percent. Jagmeet Singh is back at 15-percent.”

Nanos says it’s been in the last four weeks the percentage of Canadians favouring the Conservative leader as prime minister has shot up nearly 12-percent while Trudeau went up as preferred PM by 2.4 percent.

He says what’s also notable is that both Pierre Poilievre and Justin Trudeau are polarizing figures.

Forty-one percent of those surveyed say there is nothing positive about the Conservative leader. Thirty one percent said the same about the Liberal prime minister.
