Turns out a large majority of Canadians was upset to learn recently that Hockey Canada used millions of dollars in registration fees from players to pay out sexual assault settlements.

The Nanos Research poll conducted for the Globe and Mail found 73 percent of Canadians feel anger that Hockey Canada did not tell parents and players how a portion of their registration money was being used.

And 71 percent say they oppose these fees going toward sex assault settlements.

Pollster Nik Nanos says both of these are big numbers.

“What’s very clear is that Canadians are angry over the use of registration fees to try to settle the sexual assault allegations,” Nanos explained to CP24, “And there’s no confidence in Hockey Canada. The reality is for average Canadians, they probably think that whoever gave Hockey Canada advice to try to settle this, should be fired.”

Nanos also says many Canadians feel that this is cultural within Hockey Canada and needs to be tackled head on.
