It’s great news for Toronto and a time to celebrate for soccer fans!

Toronto has been named, along with Vancouver, as Canadian host cities for World Cup 2026.

Mayor John Tory was at an event as the announcement was made and said this is as much about the economy as it is about sports.

“Our opportunity to build this city up in terms of what is already a good reputation to a great reputation and get the best in the world to come and live and invest here in what I think is the best place in the world they can come and do business,” Tory explained.

Canada, the United States and Mexico are all co-hosting the 2026 World Cup.

The Toronto games will be held at BMO Field, just a short walk from us here at the ZoomerPlex in Liberty Village.

Both BMO Field and Vancouver’s B.C. Place will require upgrades ahead of the global event, with Vancouver set to install a grass playing surface and Toronto expected to expand the stadium’s capacity to the FIFA minimum of 40,000.
