There’s mounting pressure on the Ford government to react to the sixth COVID-19 wave that’s driving up hospitalizations.
The outgoing head of Ontario’s science advisory table says with about one-in-twenty Ontario residents currently infected, it’s time to impose restrictions.
“Right now, we’re probably having the highest number of infections daily, ever in the pandemic, luckily because of all the immunity less people will end up in our hospitals but will continue to go up,” said Dr. Peter Juni.
His number recommendation to mitigate the problem is to make up, saying the very minimum, if people wear masks, we’ll be able to ‘muddle our way through it.”
Wastewater data suggests there are up to 120,000 new infections daily.
Meantime, Health Minister Christine Elliott says there is no cause for panic and Doug Ford says “we can handle this spike.”
