Negotiators for Ukraine and Russia are said to have made significant progress on a tentative 15-point plan, including a ceasefire and Russian withdrawal.
According to three sources involved in the talks, the proposed deal would require Kyiv renouncing its desire to join NATO and promising not to host foreign military bases or weapons in return for protection from allies such as the U.S., U.K. and Turkey.
While both sides says they’d made progress on terms of a deal, Ukrainian officials are still skeptical Vladimir Putin is committed to peace and worry that the Russian president could just be buying time to regroup and resume fighting.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says a neutral military status for Ukraine is being ”seriously discussed” by both countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russia’s demand for ending the war were becoming ”more realistic.”
