Denis Shapovalov is through to the fourth round at the Australian Open for the first time in his career.
The Richmond Hill native took down American Riley Opelka in four sets (7-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4). Opelka was the tournament’s 23rd seed while Shapovalov is seeded #14.
He’ll face a tough test in the fourth round–Shapovalov takes on #3 seed Alexender Zverev.
The German has a 4-2 record against the Canadian all-time. Their last two meetings came at the season opening ATP Cup in 2021 and 202. They split those matches.
Felix Auger-Aliassime looks to join his friend Shapovalov in the fourth round. He’s in action tomorrow against Brit Dan Evans.
Auger-Aliassime is seeded ninth while Evans is #24.
