Fourth doses of COVID-19 vaccine are now being administered to residents in all 10 of City of Toronto-run long-term care homes.

In response to the threat of the Omicron variant, all City-run homes are now holding vaccination clinics to administer a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine to eligible LTC residents and working to administer third doses to staff.

The clinics will continue until all eligible LTC residents are vaccinated with a fourth shot.

On January 6, City staff began vaccinating eligible residents with fourth-dose boosters in its LTC homes to strengthen the immune response, which begins to wane in older adults, 10 to 14 weeks after the third dose.

Last month, Team Toronto said they were ramping up vaccination efforts to help all eligible Toronto residents get their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

As of this week, just over 45-percent of eligible Toronto residents had received a third shot booster.
