The province of Quebec will soon charge unvaccinated adults without medical exemptions a financial penalty.
”We’re looking for a health contribution for adults who refuse to be vaccinated for non-medical reasons,” said Premier Francois Legault.
He is not saying when this would take effect or how much it would cost, but Legault did add he wants it to be significant enough; more than $50 or $100, to act as an incentive to get immunized.
The premier says details would be revealed in ”the coming weeks,” but that the contribution could be included in provincial tax filings.
No word if it would be in those for 2021, which are to be filed by April 30 2022.
While one-in-10 adults in Quebec are unvaccinated, Legault says they represent half of ICU patients.
”These people, they put a very important burden on our health-care network,” he adds.
”I think it’s reasonable a majority of the population is asking that there be consequences.”
