While we here in Ontario and Canada are in the process of getting our COVID third shot boosters, public health experts in Israel are taking it a step further.
A fourth dose of COVID vaccine will soon be given to all citizens of Israel for people aged 60 and older. Israel’s prime minister has tweeted, “As we did with the booster in the Delta surge, we intend to be active and groundbreaking. The world will follow us.”
Israel was one of the first countries to vaccinate its population early this year and then carried out the world’s first booster campaign over the summer.
Here in Ontario, there is talk of giving fourth COVID shots to elderly people in congregate settings like long term care and retirement homes. These Ontario residents were among the first to get their booster shots following devastating first and second waves of COVID-19, especially in nursing homes.
